Paul A. Brooks was born on October 10, 1930, in Bourbon County; his family moved to Fayette County in 1946. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1950 and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951. He served 2 years in the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Hawaii, Mississippi, Idaho, California, and Connecticut during his time of service.
Following retirement from the Navy, he was employed by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government in 1977 and retired from there in 1992 for health reasons. He worked as a civilian mechanic in both the Lexington Police Garage and the Lexington Fire Department Garage. Mr. Brooks also served as a LFUCG Councilperson for the 11th District from 2002-2004.
Mr. Brooks was also involved in the following organizations: Kentucky Colonels, Golden Kiwanis of Lexington, Bluegrass Retired Officers’ Association, McConnell Springs Steering Committee, Cardinal Valley Neighborhood Association (member, also served as President), Fayette County Neighborhood Council, National Officers’ Association, and CAPP-Citizen Assistance Police Partnership Program.
