Lt. Commander Simeon Fields was born in Red Fox, Kentucky, attended Carr Creek High School, and taught in a one-room school in Perry County before being commissioned in the United States Navy in 1957. In twenty years of active and reserve service, Fields served tours in the Mediterranean Sea, Japan, and as a supply officer in Vietnam. He used GI Bill benefits to further his education, earning degrees from Alice Lloyd College, the University of Kentucky, Peabody College and the University of Louisville. He was a principal in Harlan County and superintendent of Knott County Public Schools. He lives with his daughter in Lexington today.
