Catherine Rundell joined the 3346th dental service detachment in October 1974, the first female in that reserve unit. She continued in the army reserves until retiring after 31 years of military service with a rank of Master Sergeant/E-8.
She was activated for operation Desert Shield/Storm from 1990 to 1991 and was deployed to Fort Ord, California, Fort Stewart, Georgia, and finally Fort Knox, Kentucky.
She was activated again in 2003 for Operation Iraqi Freedom and served in Iraq as the first sergeant/1SG, of the 380th medical company/dental.
Cathy moved from Louisville to Lexington in 1985 to work at the Veterans Administration and then transferred to the USPS until her retirement in 2015.
