Staff Sergeant Charles Gamble is a native of Detroit, Michigan. Charles served in the U.S. Marine Corps from June, 1966 to September, 1978, when he was honorably discharged. His service included combat in the Vietnam War and numerous years as a “fleet Marine” which took him to many other countries around the world. He was awarded the USMC Combat Action Ribbon for active ground combat against the enemy. He was assigned as an infantryman with specialties in Heavy Weapons and Demolition.
Charles moved to Lexington in 2007 and retired from Fayette County Public Schools after fifteen years as a bus driver. He is an original member of the Lexington Veterans Affairs Commission and has faithfully fulfilled his role as the Marine Corps representative.
